Hide the Paperclip is a small daily game made for fun. Here's how we handle your data, in plain language, and the simple terms for playing.
Privacy
What's public
If you post a winning run, your display name and your hiding text appear publicly on the leaderboard. Treat these as public — don't put personal information (your real name, address, email, etc.) into either field.
Stored in your browser
Your daily progress — attempts and whether you've posted today — is saved in your browser's local storage on your device. It isn't an account and isn't sent to us. Clearing your browser data resets it.
Network & security
Like any website, our hosting and infrastructure providers may briefly process technical data such as your IP address to serve the site and to limit spam and abuse. We don't use tracking or advertising cookies, and we don't build advertising profiles.
Service providers
A few third parties help run the game, and the relevant data passes through them:
- Vercel — website hosting.
- Supabase — the database that stores leaderboard submissions.
- Anthropic — for genuinely novel answers, your hiding text may be sent to an AI model to write a custom verdict. Anthropic does not use this text to train its models.
Moderation
We screen submissions for slurs and strong vulgarity and may remove anything that doesn't belong on a public board.
Keeping & removing your data
Leaderboard posts are public and stay on the board indefinitely. Want yours taken down? Email help@hidethepaperclip.com and we'll remove it.
Children
Hide the Paperclip isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information.
Terms
It's just a game
The game is provided for entertainment only. Verdicts, scores, and detective “rules” are part of the bit — they aren't advice of any kind. Please don't actually destroy, swallow, or flush anything.
Who can play
The game is open to everyone, but you should be at least 13 years old to post to the public leaderboard.
Be decent
Don't submit content that is unlawful, hateful, harassing, or that contains other people's personal information. Keep it about hiding a paperclip. We may remove submissions or block access at our discretion to keep the board clean.
Your submissions
When you post a run to the leaderboard, you grant us permission to display your display name and hiding text publicly within the game. Don't post anything you don't have the right to share.
No warranty
The game is provided “as is,” without warranties of any kind. We don't guarantee it will be available, error-free, or that scores will always be saved. To the extent allowed by law, we aren't liable for any damages arising from your use of the game.
